Acetaminophen (80-160-350-500-650 mg) | Capsule/Tablet/Granule/Liquid/Powder/Suspension/Chewable
Use:
Adults:
Acetaminophen tablet, 500 mg| 15 tablet
Side effect:
- Peeling or blistering skin.
- Rash.
- Hives.
- Itching.
- Swelling of the face, throat, tongue
- Difficulty breathing
Medication interaction:
There are no severe interactions with acetaminophen and other drugs.
Ibuprofen (300-400-600-800 mg) | Tablet
Use:
Adults:
400-600 mg orally every 4-6 hours/3 days then as needed
Do not to exceed 3200 mg/day
Side effect:
- Headache.
- Feeling dizzy.
- Nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Indigestion.
- Stomach pain.
Medication interaction:
Lithium, Warfarin, Oral hypoglycemics, High dose methotrexate, Medication for lowering blood pressure, Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, Beta-blockers, Diuretics
Aspirin (81-325-500-600-650-975 mg) Tablet
Use:
Used to reduce fever and to relieve mild to moderate pain
Adults:
300 to 650 mg orally every 4 to 6 hours as neededMaximum dose: 4 g in 24 hours
Side effect:
- Abdominal or stomach pain
- Black, tarry stools
- Bloody or cloudy urine.
- Change in consciousness.
- Chest pain or discomfort.
- Decreased frequency or amount of urine.
- Black hairy tongue.
- Difficult breathing.
Medication interaction:
Mifepristone, Acetazolamide, Warfarin, Heparin, Corticosteroids, Dichlorphenamide, Methotrexate, Valproic acid
Codeine (30 mg) | Tablet/Capsule
Use:
Commonly prescribed opioid medications for relief of dental pain include hydrocodone, oxycodone, and acetaminophen with codeine.
Due to misuse, it’s not recommended to be prescribed in dentistry
Misuse of this medicine can cause addiction, overdose, or death, especially in a child or other person using the medicine without a prescription.
Taking codeine during pregnancy may cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in the newborn.
Fatal side effects can occur if you use codeine with alcohol, or with other drugs that cause drowsiness, sedation or slow your breathing.
